When I was first learning about Belzona I used to trek down to the Metal Shredders where Dick Wilson would teach me how to use and apply these products.  Dick was a long-time family friend and bought welding rod from my father before he started this Belzona distributorship.

The car shredding equipment sees some pretty harsh operating conditions.  Dick was always good at devising ways to repair the equipment in the short outages they had.  So he’d call me up and tell me what we were going to fix and I’d grab the material, steel toe boots, hardhat and head down the road.

One time he had a huge tear in a conveyor belt.  This belt transferred the small metal pieces to the rail car sitting on the track in the distance.  Dick explained to me that his choices were pretty limited as to how to repair a conveyor belt.  He could hot vulcanize it, replace it or use Belzona and since Belzona was the friendliest option, that’s what we were going to do.

So, we cleaned the substrate the best we could, cut out some of the rubber, applied Belzona’s 2911 (QD Conditioner) and let that dry, then mixed and applied the Belzona 2111 (D&A Hi Build).   D&A stands for durable and abrasion resistant.  The Metal Shredders got a few more years life out of that belt.  Then Dick redesigned the plant and built new pieces of equipment so my first conveyor belt repair eventually ended up in the trash pile.

This is a great repair on the clip joints of a conveyor belt too.
